2 Sectors Set to Soar After Weed’s Reclassification

In a historic move last week, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency revealed a proposal to reschedule cannabis from Schedule I to Schedule III.

As you can imagine, pot stock investors cheered the news, sending pot stocks absolutely soaring…

Canadian pot stocks like Canopy Growth Corp., Tilray, and Aurora Cannabis, among others, jumped double digits on the news.

weed

Now, not to toot my own horn, but I’ve been talking about this ad nauseam for the last couple of years.

Last October, here’s what I wrote…

I usually don’t do this…

But I’m going to make a bold prediction…

The time to buy weed is right now.

There are three reasons why.

First, it’s a historic week for cannabis.

The Senate just passed the Secure and Fair Enforcement Regulation (SAFER) Banking Act.

It’s a big deal because the previous iteration of the bill, the Secure and Fair Enforcement (SAFE) Act, passed the House multiple times but never the Senate.

This time, the amended SAFER Act started in the Senate, passed, and is expected to easily pass the House.

A bit confusing, I know.

But the important part is that once the SAFER Act is signed into law, it’ll be a boon for all things marijuana.

According to the Senate, “The Secure and Fair Enforcement Regulation (SAFER) Banking Act would ensure that all businesses — including state-sanctioned cannabis businesses — have access to deposit accounts, insurance and other financial services. The legislation also creates common-sense standards for banks and credit unions to maintain customer relationships and to expand access to deposit accounts for underbanked groups.”

This brings me to the second reason to buy pot now…

Its impending reclassification.

Right now pot is scheduled as an illegal drug under the Controlled Substances Act even though 47 states have already legalized weed in some form, whether medical or recreational.

Its Schedule I classification puts it in the same category as heroin, LSD, and ecstasy.

Once the SAFER Act passes, reclassification is only a stone’s throw away.

This will open the floodgates to institutional investors who’ve been sitting on the sidelines…

Finally, the third reason to buy weed now is that pot stocks are near all-time lows.

What’s that sound?

Oh, yeah, that’s the mic dropping…

Now that weed is on its way to being rescheduled, it’s only a matter of time before other Schedule I drugs are reclassified, like magic mushrooms.

And if you didn’t get into pot last week, don’t worry, because after the stocks popped, there was a sell-off. So we’re actually still in a decent entry point for pot stocks.

And look, my stance on weed has always been that the federal government doesn’t have the authority to make it illegal. And an unconstitutional law isn’t a law at all.

But there are two other sectors that I think will benefit even more from weed’s reclassification.

Hemp

The history of hemp in the U.S. is mind-boggling. The criminalization of hemp was largely a byproduct of the broader prohibition of cannabis, driven by moral panic, misinformation, and political agendas.

Hemp is derived from the Cannabis sativa plant, which has been used for countless purposes for thousands of years, including for fiber for textiles, paper, and ropes, as well as for its seeds and oil. Hemp milk is far better for you than dairy milk, as it contains magnesium and is high in protein, with no sugar and far fewer calories. You can use it as insulation in construction, as well as a replacement for concrete called hempcrete. It’s been cultivated for thousands of years, with evidence of its use dating back to ancient civilizations in China, India, and the Middle East. Its strong fibers are nearly unbreakable.

Hemp is, by all measures, a miracle plant. The first U.S. flag was made out of hemp. Henry Ford created a car out of hemp that was stronger than steel. But hemp posed a threat to the paper industry, so the powers that be created a smear campaign to lump it in with weed. It was therefore falsely associated with marijuana, the psychoactive strain of cannabis, which led to its prohibition in many parts of the world, including the U.S.

In recent years, attitudes toward hemp have shifted, and there has been a growing recognition of its economic and environmental benefits. In the United States, the 2018 Farm Bill removed hemp from the list of controlled substances and legalized its cultivation and sale as long as it contains no more than 0.3% THC. This has led to a resurgence of hemp farming and the development of a wide range of hemp-derived products.

Now, there aren’t many publicly traded hemp companies that you can buy at the moment, but many pot companies also grow hemp, including Innovative Industrial Properties and Tilray.

Magic Mushrooms

The second sector that will benefit from weed’s reclassification is psychedelic companies.

Here are some top contenders in the space…

What’s crazy is that if you just follow the money, you’ll find company insiders buying psychedelic stocks as we speak.

Do they know something we don’t?

Are magic mushrooms going to be reclassified soon?

It’s possible…

And if that happens, one tiny company is set to benefit.
